After a lengthy hiatus, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rob Thomas[/lastfm] and company are back with the new single “She’s So Mean.”
Since their debut in 1996 with Yourself or Someone Like You, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Matchbox Twenty[/lastfm] have sold nearly 40 million albums worldwide, and on September 4th, they look to add to that number with the release of North, their first full album of new material in almost a decade.
Frontman Rob Thomas tells The Hollywood Reporter he and his bandmates are excited and proud of North, adding, “This isn’t a ‘we all have mortgages’ record. This is a ‘we don’t have to do this, but we’re doing it because we want to’ record. It feels good to be in that position.”
Matchbox Twenty (which also includes drummer/guitarist Paul Doucette, bassist Brian Yale and guitarist Kyle Cook) spent the last two years writing and recording, first in Nashville and then in southern California at longtime producer Matt Serletic‘s Emblem Studios. “We went into this record with a lot of material,” says Doucette. With Serletic’s help, the band whittled the material down to 12 tracks, all of which appear on the final product.
One of those tracks is the new single “She’s So Mean.” According to Thomas, it’s a “tongue-in-cheek song about a girl who keeps doing you wrong, but you can’t stay away. Like a drug, every guy and girl have had someone like that in their life at some time or another.” With its catchy chorus and head-bobbing hook, “She’s So Mean” is already making an impact at radio and could easily become one of this summer’s biggest hits.
North is currently available for pre-order on iTunes.
